Encouraging news 15 repubs didn't show up today

If 16 republicans do not show up for the vote then it will take only 56 votes to convict.
Since there seems to be exactly 6 republicans willing to vote guilty, this may be what the republicans are planning. They get rid of Trump while evading responsibility for doing so.

They will be there to vote because they already know how they will vote. They knew that before all this even started.
