Former Trump United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley has turned on former President Donald Trump for his role in stoking the United States Capitol riots on January 6th.
In an interview with Politico's Tim Alberta, Haley said that she didn't think Trump would be a significant figure in the Republican Party going forward, and she admitted it was a mistake for the GOP to help him in his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
"He went down a path he shouldn't have, and we shouldn't have followed him, and we shouldn't have listened to him," she said. "And we can't let that ever happen again."
Haley insisted that she was proud of the work she had done for the former president, and claimed that something fundamentally changed in him after he lost the election.

(22,912 posts)Sure, Trump gave up on mostly "non-violent" means to consolidate his grip on power. But I know that isn't the so called change Haley is claiming. It's a convenient dodge for Haley, another in a string of lies and I am confident that she knows it. But if that is the off ramp that she and other former Trump supporters need in order to jump ship on Trump now, better that then continued loyalty to the man who has caused the gravest threat to America since the Civil War.

(10,177 posts)disavowing Trump now will damage their political futures in two, four or six years. Apparently, Nikki believes the Trump phenomenon will fizzle out, and voters will come to their senses before she declares her '24 presidential run.

(933 posts)If the rabble had captured members of Congress and forced the US government to line up behind a criminal president, shed be calling them patriots.
How do I know? Because her objection should have appeared DAY ONE with her rejection of any appointment from this monster. What might be the basis of her disagreement? Pick one - the 1980s housing discrimination lawsuit, the Central Park Five, the destruction of important architecture, laundering money charges at Soho tRump, paying off women, threatening people, failure to pay contractors, the list is endless.
I dont recall a single objection - I looked for her to supply one, just one but nope. It was all good.
And this creature want to run for President! What a laugh! Maybe shell run as a law-and-order president!
