(1,896 posts)He's got troubles ahead. I'd even argue that the best thing that could happen for him would be to be convicted in the impeachment trial because it might head off real criminal charges that will certainly follow his "acquittal".

They know if they vote to convict Trump, & Trump turns against them, they could lose 1/3 (or more?) of their voter base & thus (likely) lose their Senate seat.

(1,702 posts)A perfect criminal case was presented by the managers. NOW, will some jurisdiction take up that crime? Even if only to smoke out the "secret pardons" tRUMP has no doubt bestowed on himself. (and the crime syndicate).

(18,486 posts)He may not be convicted in the Senate, but the only difference between conviction and acquittal is a disqualification from holding federal office. And a disqualification by the Senate is not the only way to make that happen.
On the other hand, the impeachment managers have done a beautiful job of etching this into the historical record for all to see. He's not getting away with this. He will forever be tarnished and ruined.
And he is facing years of criminal charges and civil lawsuits - he will spend the rest of his life running from the law.

They were never going to convict him. Never. I have no idea why anyone evr has thought that they will do the right thing. There may have been a time. That time is LONG GONE.

The impeachment trial is a construction of a primary source for our time.
Linguists and historians will look back on this trial and will clearly see that the GOP is conflating rhetoric with incitement.
It may not seem that way now, but anyone who has written a research paper knows how to go about sourcing contemporaneous accounts of something.
The GOP senators who are showing their asses (in my mother's words) stand in sharp relief to the people who take Trump's actions seriously.

Awhile back..watched Chris Rock's comedy special..his bit on trump and on generally bad people --that sometimes never get their due; just desserts and karma never ones aroound to punsh them for bad, evil, corrupt, greedy behavior; of course I'm paraphrasing ... yet with Rock's comediic voice was hilarious.
