We can never forget that at the core of this was an attempt to throw out Black, brown, and Indigenous votes. Those were the votes that they did not want to count.
The Confederate battle flag leading the charge confirms that.

Trump has always shown his true colors since 2016 when he claims that he "won" the popular vote and again in 2020 when he "won" the popular vote again.
And the MAGA's gleefully went along.

Senators need to understand: Stop the monster before he kills you. I do not mean this figuratively.

I hope that, The Voting Rights Act , is strengthened, axed provisions, put back in place along with other renewals that will get states to make it easier to vote in their districts or by mail, whatever it takes to keep states from disenfranchising the people.

(10,843 posts)Eliminate voters you know are not your supporters, who have the ability of turning elections. Voter suppression through voter ID, signature checks, fewer polling places, whatever--are all designed to make voting as hard and inconvenient as possible. All these techniques are cynically said to preserve the franchise, ensure the validity of the vote.
In other words, if you do not vote Republican, your vote shouldn't count, particularly if you represent a block of Democratic voters as do black, brown and indigenous communities.
Is it racist? Of course, it is and Cori Bush is correct. The Confederate flag is a clear symbol of that racism despite all the heritage excuses or very fine people declarations.
Republicans have wrapped themselves in the flag (the Confederate flag and/or Trump flag are perfectly acceptable) and wave the Bible.
Unless you're willfully blind, you know who and what they are.
