(25,979 posts)Democratic members raised objections in the past re counting of electoral votes. Have they ever done so after insurrection and after president's personal lawyer asked Senators to make objections specifically to delay the vote.
Raskin: No, not aware of any other times this has happened for either side. In 2016 Raskin pointed out some FL electors were officeholders as well as electors, which is against the rules. Was gaveled down by Biden, who rightly said 'let's make this work' and they did. Agreed that Biden was right. Nobody has stormed the Capitol before or gone out and incited a mob. Plaskett points out he does have briefings to warn him. Everyone saw the news reports and warnings to be careful that day. trump had duty to protect and defend the Capitol and all of its staff. (25,979 posts)Sad and mad that Repub Senators who were there that day are not acknowledging reality. Says trump's team were "auditioning to compete with Alan Dershowitz for a Newsmax show." There was no lawyering going on, just an alternate reality show. The trump team was incapable of answering the questions, just attacking the House team. Sets a really bad precedent for the next demagogue who comes along, and likely some of the Senators there are happy about it because it could be them. Ouch.
