I believe the only chance that republicans might vote to convict is if they can be convinced that MF45 really did not give two shits about his VP. He knew Pence was in danger or worse and did nothing about it. That’s probably sitting badly with more than a few of them.

but it needs to be made public so that they are embarrassed. Of course, lots (most?) Trump supporters are totally OK with Trump throwing Pence (and whoever else who isn't loyal to him) under the bus, or to the mob.

This is sucking oxygen from Joe's agenda. We gave multiple crisis' to handle. Time is of the essence and I'm not sure spending a lot of time to still end up with an acquittal is the best use of our time.

I wish things were different, but ...

Too many times in our history we have not followed through in obtaining the truth which have allowed perpetrators go about on their merry way unpunished.

This was a failed coup. We might not be so lucky next time. There was a near attempt in the 30s, had Smedley Butler not blown the whistle. How many other failed attempts are there in our past that we know nothing about?

It's late and I'm tired, so I'm not sure I'm explaining myself very well. But I want the investigations to go deep, and the traitors punished.

President Biden's Administration can handle crises and repair the damages that Donald and his mob inflicted upon our nation.

Pelosi and Schumer can multitask investigations and legislating in Congress.

Merrick Garland, once confirmed, can repair and lead the DOJ. I heard he's considering applying RICO beginning with the politicians on this failed coup -- which if he does -- it makes me very, very happy.

But they don't need to be done as part of the impeachment trial.

I like this Twitter thread on the topic, starting here:

I agree, and I'll explain, since there are so many doubters: 1) The Dem managers are brilliant, and made this choice based on their superior fund of information- this is not incompetence. It is therefore either strategy, or determined by things outside the impeachment

Greg Olear @gregolear
If I were a Republican Senator, the fact that the House managers are not calling witnesses would scare the shit out of me.

and a little further down:

Dirk Schwenk (Esq) @DirkSchwenk Replying to @DirkSchwenk
5) At least some of the Senator/jurors are targets of this investigation, and giving them too much information before the FBI is ready would be a mistake.

I still wouldn't mind seeing some witnesses, but given the massive ongoing investigations by the FBI, some which may involve a few Senators, it seems unlikely they'll be called.

I remain in favor of not calling witnesses and getting this thing behind us. There is ample time for Merrick Garland to fully and deeply investigate this entire situation once he gets confirmed. But he won't get confirmed until the impeachment trial is completed. As long as the Senate is bogged down with an impeachment trial that will STILL yield an acquittal is a waste of valuable time in my opinion.

This whole episode really reminds me of a love affair that has ended. One party may plead his or her case about all the great things they've done, how much they love them, how long they have been together. They can plead how they dedicated their life and passed on other opportunities, how they put up with everything bad yet stood by and supported, etc, etc, etc. The other party may 100% agree with everything the broken hearted has stated, yet, it's over.

Like the old expression, you can't change people....all you can do in a relationship is try your best, be yourself, carry yourself with dignity, and let the chips fall where they may. The Democrats did all of that.

It simply does not matter to the republicans. Nothing, absolutely nothing anyone can say, do, present, what have you, will change their minds. It's over to them.

Repubs are toxic.
