(32,083 posts)There was that one day when he decided to join in with the other members of Congress who were also medical personnel, when they went and helped with COVID-19 patients. When he put out his showboat photo, he was wearing a mask.

(25,471 posts)I never understood it, but some people bought into his propaganda. A good (very liberal) friend of mine joined the cult. I kept asking him why a hardcore liberal would want to support the most conservative member of Congress in decades.

(25,471 posts)He is and has always been vehemently anti-choice. His ostensibly liberal supporters usually just waived that off and focused on his supposed anti-war credentials, which were similarly flimsy. Ron Paul quite literally voted no on *everything*, not just military spending.
Well, except for pork for his own district. He spent his entire career railing against pork, while his district was consistently in the top few percent in receiving it.

(128,958 posts)people like Bob Barr (originally R-GA and then L-GA) who went "all in" with the Libertarian party. I remember actually watching their nominating convention when Barr was running for President on that ticket. It's the cherry-picking of the "ideas" (including being "anti-Affirmative action"/"civil rights" ) that the Pauls do.
And regarding the "true" pork-railer, see Jeff Flake. I used to watch him when he was in the House and would show up for every budget debate with a list of "pork" (earmarks) that he would read-off.
