Jaw-Dropping Poll Finds Trump Worst President Ever, But Best Among Republicans TRIPLING Abraham LincolnBy Tommy ChristopherFeb 13th, 2021, 9:43 am
A stunning new poll shows Donald Trump is considered the worst president ever by an overwhelming margin over his next competitor, but among Republicans he is considered the best president ever by three times as many who chose Abraham Lincoln.
In the latest Economist/YouGov poll, respondents were shown a list of all past U.S. presidents, and were asked Who was the worst President in U.S. history?
Trump took the top spot by 22 points, with 46 percent naming him the worst president ever. Former President Barack Obama was a distant second at 24 percent. But President Obama topped the list of best presidents in U.S. history as well. In a much closer result, he edged out Lincoln, 18 percent to 17 percent. Trump came in third at 13 percent.
Among Republicans, however, Trump dominated at 36 percent, doubling the 18 percent who selected former President Ronald Reagan and nearly tripling the 13 percent who selected Lincoln.

(32,130 posts)Only U.S. history grad students/professors know much about the past presidents in our history. Maybe some political junklies as well. So I don't know how anyone really votes in these things other than name recognition.

(8,117 posts)as a larger and larger percentage, Trump's approval among them will continue to rise.
It's a self-reinforcing downward spiral.

(101,411 posts)Lincoln is unpopular with some of the southern Confederate supporters, who are all in the Republicans (notable that the South region put Trump as 2nd 'best', while all others put Lincoln 1st (Midwest and West), or 2dn to Obama (Northeast)). And some other Republicans may think "history, who can say?" or just be ignorant.
But Reagan is recent, and held up by the mainstream Republicans as wonderful. You'd think he'd beat a guy who just presided over 400,000 deaths, whatever they think of impeachment. But it seems the deplorables don't give a shit - they like the overt bigotry of Trump, and that he hates the same people they do.
