I've known Norm for about 20 years. No one is a sharper observer of the DC scene.

4. Norm has always been for middle of the road sanity

Because sanity has been a scarce commodity in the Republican party, right-wingers tend to try to paint him as a "flaming leftist." Well, he IS a "small L liberal." He believes in sane, free thinking. He is certainly conservative on certain issues, such as gun control (as am I), an issue where most Republicans are so liberal, they are ashamed to admit the term applies to them. I am solidly against liberalizing gun ownership laws any further, and would be favor of making them more restrictive, as they are here in most of Europe.

Though he has some choice epithets for today's Republicans, Norm isn't overly fond of labels, as I guess you must know. Have you known him longer than I have? He has one of the most wicked senses of humor in DC. If you know him, too, then you know it's dangerous to be on the wrong side of it.
