(115,587 posts)And I, for one, am sick of people whining about "Dems rolling over again" just because something happened that they didn't understand. We are watching some of the most skilled lawyers and legislators in the country. They know exactly what they're doing.

(7,844 posts)That's how it seems to me ... but perhaps I dont understand . If someone could explain what we gained by not calling witnesses it might go a long in cutting down the amount of dems "whining"

(10,417 posts)I'd like to understand, if what I see and perceive are not what it is, someone should explain. The rush only helps MF45. I'd like a good reason to not call witnesses.

(115,587 posts)that, if the Senate GOPers were willing to consider facts (which they are not, and the outcome will be the same anyhow), would almost certainly result in Trump's conviction. Live witnesses would not have increased the chances of conviction and would have only given Trump's lawyers a platform to reinforce Trump's lies during cross-examination, to the delight and further inflaming of Trump and his followers. Raskin was very skillfully playing chicken. Although Trump's lawyers would have tried to turn the proceedings into a circus by flinging bullshit at the witnesses, they were totally unprepared to actually undertake that process. Trump's lawyers caved because they knew they couldn't handle it and they didn't want to do it, and Raskin knew they'd cave.

(4,612 posts)a stipulation would have been great.
But in THIS world, all that matters is the pressure we can put on them by publicizing the facts of what happened as broadly and dramatically as possible. The only way to do that was with witness testimony.

And now they'll get their planned President's week vacation.
I've now lost interest in the closing arguments.
