Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) on Saturday chastised what he called "spineless" lawmakers who are unwilling to seriously weigh the allegations against Donald Trump due to their "abject fear" of the former president.
Brown criticized Republican colleagues who he characterized as having approached Trump's impeachment trial with a closed mind despite the "damage he's done to his country."
"It's so clear this president abused his power. It's so clear he incited violence," he said. "And my colleagues just refuse to see it because of their abject fear of Donald Trump."
Speaking to reporters at the Capitol ahead of the Saturday impeachment proceedings, Brown said he was unsure if calling witnesses would change the minds of Republicans who have already decided to acquit Trump.

(427 posts)has won statewide office in several years. Going back a couple of generations, the state wide (and some local) ballots had many Smiths and Browns listed. One local election had a Brown vs. Smith, they were both born with other names.
Not to be misunderstood, Sherrod Brown is a good man, and i have voted for him. Ohio is politically, East Indiana, North Kentucky, and Upper West Virginia.

Never thought of it that way, but sheesh, there you go. Southern Michigan, western Pennsylvania, too.
Just read an article posted in another thread that listed 21 domestic terrorist / hate groups in Ohio (source Southern Poverty Law Center), including Proud Boys. I guess that's why I rarely drive outside of my county (Cuyahoga).

I'll concede the rest of the West PA counties are more like Alabama.

That whole section in the mining regions (parts of WV, PA, OH and KY) is nothing short of scary.
Edited to add: I think Senator Sherrod Brown is just awesome

(6,017 posts)They fear losing his voters. They enmeshed themselves so tightly with him, intentionally. They selected him and then protected him for four years - and joined his profiteering along the way.
What they fear is that they cannot survive 2022 without his voters.
