(3,542 posts)Now I feel wasted time.
Republicans will crow about this .

(28,836 posts)We got Trump to admit on record that the McCarthy call happened exactly as described.
Proof that he didn't care about the riot and wasn't going to do anything to stop it. Right from the horse's mouth.
Cave, eh? Bullshit.

(7,334 posts)Very bad optics.
We political junkies know The Dems did not cave - but as usual that is not the view the rest of the World will see due to a complicit MSM

(18,486 posts)Trump's attorney threw a complete fit about how unfair it was to allow her to testify.
And less than two hours later, Democrats entered her comments into the record without any objection from Trump
That's not caving. That's getting exactly what they wanted - and getting it without any hassle, delay, cross-examination, or Trump witnesses.

(18,486 posts)Why do you take him at his word? He's a liar.
Of course, he's positioning himself as having won this - what else would he say after he caved on this?

(18,486 posts)And it can be used against him in the future if it comes up.
But even if it weren't, the point was to get the information into the record. That's just what they did. Without dragging out the proceedings or subjecting her to cross-examination.

(13,320 posts)I have been in a court case where this exact thing happened and if they do not object, which they said, stipulates the conversation to be true and it is an agreement by their client that they agree to the contents of the statement.

(18,486 posts)They got into the record what she heard about the phone call, with no objection from Trump.
Done.

(69,087 posts)Meanwhile, the Republican senators would have subpoenaed hundreds of witnesses, making BLM look bad, promoting the biggest lie of all - that we're "just as bad." It would have played into their hands and Trump would still be acquitted.

(35,032 posts)The media shapes the behavior of our leaders, who are then tossed under the bus when they cave to those very pressures.
As for me, I would have supported Democrats if they had chosen to continue, but I also understand that rethugs were insisting that they weren't going to change their votes regardless. I'm not sure that's the case, but at the same time, I'm satisfied that Democrats did their part in attempting to hold tRump accountable. Now it's up to our next Attorney General.

(69,087 posts)Days or weeks giving a platform to Republicans lying wouldn't serve our democracy well. Hell, the Republicans probably would have subpoenaed Hillary and questioned her again about Benghazi.
We Democrats need to understand that Republicans don't play by any ethical standards. Trump is going to be acquitted, no matter what. The question for Democrats is how do we preserve and sustain our democracy?

(14,364 posts)Everyone, including myself, would like every fact brought to light. But in the end it still wont matter when it comes to the outcome. And honestly, most Americans want congress to get back to the stimulus. They pretty much know that at the end the Trump vote will be split politically, and the longer that takes, the longer they will wait for a check.
