According to a source close to Trump legal team, the former president is pleased there won’t be witnesses at the trial.
The source added that the legal team views the democrats‘ decision to not call witnesses as a clear victory.

by getting the stipulation he wanted without giving the Trumpers the opportunity to amplify the big lie during the examination of witnesses.

We got exactly what we wanted out of it without calling McCarthy as a witness.

Wasn't necessary, because Trump's team acknowledged that the call went exactly as described. Trump, in the middle of the riot, said he didn't care, supported the insurrections, and said he wasn't going to do anything about it.

The fact that Trump is proclaiming victory should have been the first clue that it's not.

because he'd have loved to have seen the circus his dipshit lawyers would have made of the proceedings by amplifying his lies during cross-examination (which wouldn't be constrained by the normal rules of trial procedure).
