need to use their power. Let mcconnel know that if the party votes to acquit trump, they will announce that the party they have supported for decades has left the principles it once stood for. Therefore they will declare as independents. That would doom mitch's hope to return to the majority leader post.

They have nothing to lose. They are going to be primaried no matter what. Republican Party support will go to the yahoos.

The sad truth for us rabid progressives is that a party made up of center right former republicans and center left former Democrats would clean up in the elections.
