As Lead ManagerJamie Raskin so eloquently stated and laid out for all to undsrstand..." This inpeachment trial is not about Donald Trump. We all know who he is and what he is. This is about all of us and what kind of country we want for our children and grandchildden. What we do in this room will be our legacy."
By laying this all on the Senators in the room, Raskin knows who will do the right thing and who will have the stains on their legacies. Brilliant Rep. Raskin.

(2,847 posts)He gave the best closing statement - thank you for posting some of it here.
He did reserve some time, so hopefully they can have the last word after this 'defense' lawyers BS.

(17,757 posts)If the sole point of this procedure was conviction, then it was not worth the effort, and that was clear from the start.
The Republicans were never going to convict.

(8,172 posts)Every Manager gave memorable closing comments, for the ages.
It would be wonderful to have all archived for reference. I imagine transcripts would be posted somewhere on their .gov pages or somewhere for easy access.. I'll try and remember to search for those sometime just to keep handy on my lap top.

This will show future generations how responsive Democrats where toward this issue,... and alternately how unresponsive the ReThugs were and shamefully cavalier they were towards this matter.

(13,202 posts)He was the right man at the right time. No one could have done better and I have a new level of admiration for him. All of the House Managers did the most incredible job possible. They all deserve the utmost gratitude and thanks. Even in the face of this loss, I couldnt be more proud of them.

(25,355 posts)a 2/3 majority for conviction, the traitor was acquitted. But don't forget that there was a majority that voted to convict.
Raskin's closing was superb.
By acquitting the traitor, the Republican Party has now officially declared itself the traitor party of Trump. I, for one, refuse from now on to designate any of them as Rs or Rrpublicans. They are now and forever the Traitor Party, the Ts.
We have two major parties in the US today, the Traitor Party and the Patriot Party. Never forget which is which.

(2,010 posts)Or, Bipartisan majority votes to convict!
But not enough votes, due cowardly or complicit GOPQ senators.
tRump acquitted is not the headline I want to see, and may boycott any news media that tries to sell that.

(2,937 posts)when he warned them that if they let trump get away with it that time, there was a 100% chance he would do it again. We keep warning them, they keep ignoring it.

(22,359 posts)We need a much stronger majority in the Senate, AND we need to build the House majority back up as well. Lots of work to do in 2022! (Hey, how's that for a slogan?

(29,454 posts)The acquittal of Donald Trump is a NATIONAL DISGRACE, NOT SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM.
The blame for this lies entirely with those in the GOP who betrayed their oaths of office and their country with their vote to let this madman walk, and now run for office again.

(54,544 posts)There is a massive infestation of fascism in the populace and the political ranks. It's so large you can't risk a conflagration. Tamping it down, bit by bit, calming down rhetoric, letting time go by and tempers cool down, is how you find a path back to normal. As much as I dislike McConnell, he acknowledged several major points against Trump. And I don't want to admit he has made an implied point: do we really want to establish precedent that we try and convict former presidents. Because if you do it once, it will be done again, and they will come for us Democrats as you well know. There is great wisdom in the strong stand for our Constitution, and let the DOJ and court systems deal with the further fallout, beginning with all the indictments against insurgents already underway.
