Mitch McConnell apparently doesn't understand...

the function of a comma in the English language—apparently, the House Managers shouldn’t have wasted their time with the opines of Constitutional Scholars, they should have brought in a freaking second grade English teacher 🙄

Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States

The latter can't be voted upon unless the former occurs. The comma doesn't matter in context.

His argument is that removal is the required punishment, with disqualification being optional. Since removal isn't possible, impeachment is irrelevant in his scenario.

Of course, there's no consensus on this and it was always their likely defense. It's just a dodge.
