I figured 54, 55. Burr really surprised me. It surprised me that Sasse didn't bail, as has been his pattern.

4. Burr really threw the betting markets off. In retrospect he was in play.

After all, he voted for the repeal of DADT so he's always been a bit of a wild card.

7. I remember when he voted for the repeal of DADT surprising the pundits.

They attributed it to his making a concession to a changing electorate. Now that he's retiring it looks like he voted his conscience.

Probably wouldn't have gotten all 10, but it does seem to lead to a bit of a conscience emerging.

Or, it could just be that the people retiring just don't see themselves in the party any longer. That's probably more likely. I can understand how relatively moderate Republicans can wonder how it got to this point.

I’d hate to lose him as my Rep but would love to see him as an Ohio senator.

I'll call him my senator in this instance, because he does represent me in this.

And he's a "cousin" of Aaron Burr, who killed Hamilton in a duel. While I'm not one to be impressed by pedigree or lineage, the current Burr showed himself to be a patriot today.
He already said he wasn't running for reelection, so had nothing to lose.

The ones that didn't surprise me TOO much: Manchin, Murkowski, Romney, Toomey, and I guess, Sasse. Cassidy did, a little, but he's been leaning that way. Collins is so wishy-washy normally that I'm pretty surprised she managed to dig in her heels this time. Burr is the one that kind of blew me away.

I didn't think he was ever going to vote no, but a lot of people seemingly thought he might. I'm not sure that applies to anyone else on the D side. Maybe Sinema?

He's been loyal to the country all his career. He sees differently than most Democrats on many issues, but he sees quite differently than Republicans on many many more. He's in the right party for his politics, even if it's not a snug fit some days.

23. I saw that. Formerly, Robert Byrd was a democratic senator from West Virginia.

I'm really sick and tired of these states with no people in them running the country. Can't democratic investors and wealthy people start some companies in this unpopulated states, and then build a bunch of housing and move democrats in there?

We've been ruled by the minority for way too many years.
