(51,590 posts)He asked his guests, "Why are these GOP reps still voting against saving the US? Is the job that spectacular? Or is it the fame and celebrity that is keeping them from voting party over country?". Steve Schmidt said it is partially the fame and position since the reps have basically been dying to be a rep their whole lives so this is very important to them.

(6,820 posts)It is timely and appropriate to shame them into numbness by treating them as the recalcitrant children they are.

(11,563 posts)And has been for a while now. Best House Speaker since....when, or who? Anyone have a suggestion? I was thinking Tip O'Neill, but he was pretty chummy with Raygun, and I'm not sure how that influences his "score." My political interests lacked the breadth back then that they do now.

(8,729 posts)Hand and intent. Now burn the nuclear option, the bipartisan and unity bullshit to the ground. Take the power we gave them, get to work and FUCK the QOP. They have no place in our democracy.

(28,463 posts)Anyone paying attention to *broadly gestures to the last 20 years* knows full-well that every one of these traitors will go on to lucrative careers as lobbyists, conservative "think" tank leaders, public speakers, and university teaching fellowships should they ever leave the Senate.
Please stick to the facts - these were cowardice votes because they fear 45's followers.
MyMission
(1,850 posts)So they can go on to those lucrative careers. Without their current jobs, they wouldn't qualify for the next level. So Nancy's right.
You do have a point, though. Many do fear 45 and followers, but many are just following orders or following the crowd. And they got elected (hired) by delusional cult 45 members.
Either way, the point is they are incompetent, compliant, and complicit. In the real world that doesn't get someone very far.

(65,010 posts)I support the Speaker's sentiment, but these people could get another gig, paying 5x more (at least) in a week or less.
That makes their cowardice or complicity even worse.

(93 posts)What are the chances of making changes to the qualifications for becoming a member of Congress, Vice President, President, and for that matter Cabinet member?
I know of no Profession where age and favorite soft drink are the only real requirements and everything that matters is only a suggestion. (Not to mention a salary of $174k.
We are the ones paying that salary. This is what makes me angry. I do not appreciate paying the salary of any of the Repug Grifters or cleaning up after their malware has infected everything.
This is how we get deranged people driving our bus.
If we really value Democracy, why aren't we protecting it? I hope someone, somewhere is thinking the same way.
It matters to me.
