nation.ARLINGTON, Va. Icy roads contributed to a fast-rising number of vehicle pileups Sunday as parts of the nation contended with major winter storms that caused power outages and traffic nightmares.
A fiery accident involving several semi-trailer trucks forced the shutdown of Interstate 44 in both directions northeast of Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said there were also passenger cars at the crash scene. The number and severity of the injuries resulting from the wreck were being assessed.
In Texas, the highway patrol had reported several multi-car pileups in the western part of the state by early afternoon, including one that involved 25 vehicles and closed down a portion of I-20 westbound.
On Thursday, at least six people died and dozens were injured in a 133-vehicle pileup on a Fort Worth, Texas, highway.

(31,261 posts)Bay Area, Southern California and even Florida are excellent weather wise this time of year. Parts of Arizona and parts of New Mexico, Nevada and Utah are also nice weather wise right now.

(31,261 posts)Further south it does get humid.
But I agree, the Bay Area has what is close to ideal weather during the day. The inversion in July and August does make being out after 5pm without a sweater or jacket a test, especially for visitors to that area, but wearing a warmer top at night is something a person can control, no one can control snow or humidity.

(25,183 posts)She did get her vaccination on Monday! My brother-in-law backed the car up into her garage to help her get inside, and they had a wheelchair available at the clinic she went to, so no possibility of slipping on the ice.
This was only the third time she's been out of the house since March 9, 2020, and the other two were doctor appointments. She feels like she's out on parole!

(15,804 posts)Sadly there is no way the person/people in the car couldve made it. The Columbia River is fast and cold. The location of the car is known but the coast guard wont send divers out until tomorrow.
Very icy.
There is an ice storm this evening in town. Im on the southern edge and things seem to be melting. Ive heard crashing periodically from the nearby trees. Some trees are going down. Not a night to be out driving.
