The claim: Vice President Kamala Harris did not place her hand on the Bible while being sworn in
After Vice President Kamala Harris historic swearing-in on Jan. 20, social media users started circulating claims that Harris purportedly refused to rest her hand on the Bible while taking the oath of office.
She did NOT place her hand on the Bible as you can clearly see when she was inaugurated while being sworn in, a purse/wallet is on top of that Bible, a Facebook user wrote. The post included a photo of Harris placing her hand on a black object on top of a thick copy of the Bible.

Harris used 2 Bibles
Harris used two Bibles to be sworn in on Jan. 20, USA TODAY reported. One Bible belonged to the late civil rights icon and Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, who helped inspire her career path. The second Bible belonged to family friend Regina Shelton, whom Harris called a second mother to her and her sister.

I downloaded the above picture and magnified it. One can see the top book says "Holy Bible". Guess righties are technologically challenged.

(9,350 posts)I do not think it is either of the reasons you listed in your title. I think it was done because whoever made the statement realized that a large number of Trump supporters did not watch the inauguration and would not believe anything the MSM said about the issue. As a result, the statement would be made then passed on to others whose fact check would only consist of right-wing and far right-wing websites, all of which would say the story was true.

(9,350 posts)Lindsey Graham is actually threatening to impeach Kamala Harris for allegedly bailing out a protester who supposedly, after being released, returned to protests and brutally attacked someone. However, it needs to be pointed out that Graham is lying about the situation. Harris never bailed out any protesters. She posted a link to a group that works to help people pay their bails so that those people do not have to stay in jail, or borrow money to pay their bails.
It should also be noted that the Harris situation, even if it had been true, is not the equivalent of what Donald Trump did. Even if Harris had bailed out someone who later attacked someone, there was no way Harris could have known the person would attack someone. Also, there is no proof that Harris encouraged that particular protester, or any other protesters to attack people. Trump on the other hand, actually encouraged people to go to the Capitol. As far as I know, he actually told the crowd "we are going to the Capitol".

(9,444 posts)It says Holy Bible, is black and has the zipper. Looks to be that same thickness. My parents gave it to me on Christmas in 1958. My mom actually wrote in it that it was from Santa Claus. It's my one and only Bible.

(34,069 posts)It's ceremony, not legally required. Our vice president is not required to be a person of any faith, let alone a specific faith. If you aren't a person of faith there is no point in putting your hand on a religious text. (As a Quaker, I'd argue there's no point in it even if you are a person of faith.)
ETA: Part of my reaction comes from the response Obama rarely (if ever) made to the allegation he was Muslim. The response I would have liked him to make was - "Would it be a problem if I was?" Denying the allegation, without more, felt too much like accepting the implication that Muslims don't have a place in our country.

(2,273 posts)My shit I don't care about list. Who your imaginary friend is has no impact on me, she could swear on every holy relic of every religion and it doesn't mean a thing. People who wear their religion do it because their actions don't speak it. As long as she is looking out for the least among us, she is doing the most for us.
