1. Just be careful. I had once read a warning about putting anything on top of an electric blanket.

It could have been warning about older models 🙂

2. Oh, no! That's my bigggest fear in the winter.

The cats and I would be fine; it's my fish and dwarf aquatic frogs in the aquarium I worry about. I keep heat packs and those NASA blankets on hand in case of a power outage or other disaster, but that doesn't address the air pump and filtration issues.

I hope you can get it fixed very soon! It sounds miserable.

They are very cheap on Amazon, not much more than a buck each when you buy 10. Also they don't take up much space. Also handy for injured people in car accidents to keep them warm.
I have one of those old metal coffee cans and keep one filled with candles I buy at yard sales in the summer. Emergence heater if stuck in the car in the winter. Just light one in the can and it makes a great little space heater. Back in the 70s I use to go camping in the winter in a two man pup tent. I had one of those fluid filled hand warmers. Would fire it up and then roll it up in a pair of sock. Then I would put in and at the bottom of my sleeping bag. It would keep my warm all night and had warm socks in the morning.
good luck

4. Are ya prepared for if it becomes a 3 dog night?

I remember -- was about 40 years ago. Hiking and camping. Several guys hiked up... 900ft climb to the campsite where we were already set up.

Things were going well until bed time. Then the argument broke out between two of them... whose sleeping bag the dog was going into.

"I carried him up the hill."

"Yeah, well he's my dog."

I don't know which bag the dog ends up in, but that went on for a few minutes.

Few nights, he woke me up at 5am licking himself. He is not quiet like the cat, lol. I told him he is in other room on his bed tonight.

won't raise the temp where I am sitting (or sleeping) to greater than 55F overnight. I could turn up central heat, but damn the bills are crazy lately.

Please keep us updated as to when you finally get heat and can crawl out from under numerous blankets and dogs.

9. Does your condo have its own furnace or heating system?

If so, you need to call someone in to have it checked and fixed right away. If it's a condo in a multi-occupancy building, you need to make sure the problem is being diagnosed and repaired by whoever is responsibly.

In 2 degree weather, the temperature in a stand-alone home will drop about 1 degree every half hour or so. At some point, it will get low enough to freeze the water in your plumbing. Don't let it go that far.

18. Must be an undersized unit, designed for less cold conditions.

That's not uncommon. So make sure all window coverings are closed, close doors in rooms you're not using, and things should warm up a little more. You can also try setting the thermostat a bit higher and see if that will help, but it probably won't.

12. To save money, I spent much of a winter with the tstat set at 55

I wore a jacket all day and as long as I was active with projects, it was ok. It was in the evening when i was sitting that it wasn't so much fun. Late in the winter, if i remember correctly, I raised the temp to 63.

Best of luck and hope they fix the heat soon!
