Wall Street Journal warns Republicans: 'Trump won't win another election'

Editorial also says that a ‘revenge campaign tour’ or third-party run would only ‘divide the center-right and elect Democrats’

In the aftermath of Donald Trump’s second acquittal in an impeachment trial, his supporters celebrated confirmed dominance of the Republican party. But as they did so an influential voice warned: “Mr Trump may run again, but he won’t win another national election.”

The Wall Street Journal also said moves other than a run for the Republican nomination in 2024, for example a “revenge campaign tour” or third-party run, would only “divide the centre-right and elect Democrats”.

The judgment came in an editorial from a paper owned by Rupert Murdoch, a dominant voice on the American right. It echoed moves by Murdoch, the Journal and his other powerful media outlet, Fox News, last November, in the immediate aftermath of an election Trump still refuses to admit he lost.

On Saturday, seven Senate Republicans joined Democrats in voting to convict Trump on a charge of insurrection arising from the Capitol riot – 10 short of the two-thirds majority needed.

McCarthy and McConnell want those donor lists. Trump knows it.

or win another vote more than 2016? And the reality is, he keeps defying common sense and normalcy. Don't get me wrong. I wish this to be true just like every other predictions against Trump. But I've seen it so many times that I no longer believe it until I see the result. All I can say is, don't underestimate Trump or how low the republicans and some independent voters can go and vote for anyone with a R next to their name.

People may have short memories but not about Dumpy. If he were to run again, I believe that the 81 million that voted for Biden would increase beyond that. On the other side, the support is falling, not a lot, but enough to humiliate him again.

I am just not as sure as the author or some people around here. I hope that 1) Trump won't run in 2024 (I am really done with hearing about him) 2) He will lose badly if he somehow got the nomination. But I hoped the same in 2016 and it didn't materialized just like the other examples I gave. He lost in 2018 and 2020 but we don't know what 2022 or 2024 brings. My point is simply that don't underestimate Trump strength and ability to evade any responsibilities.

Nobody has lost (twice) by more total votes.
MAGAts just need something to cling to after their embarrassing defeat. Don't buy into it.

Too many moderate republicans not beholding to Trump's radical base that have been turned off by the insurrection.
I also believe if the impeachment vote were secret ballot, Trump would have been mercilessly convicted.

Finished. There’s no fucking way he will ever get nominated by the Republican party, let alone win another race for the White House. Especially after McConnell’s blasting of him after the vote along with he’ll never get enough people that want anything to do with him after he personally lead an insurrection against the country. Forgeddibout it.

Let me remain the front runner of the Organized Crime Party for the next 4 years. When he has to run in the GE, he can run on his record. The worst of any administration that I can remember. Meanwhile, Biden and the Democrats will get the ship of state turned around and back to a new normal level of functionality.
