The Presidency is a physically demanding job. One must be physically fit to do it well.

One can argue FDR's semi-paralysis, but a quick glance at any of his biographies will show that he compensated for his atrophied legs by building up his chest, arms and upper body to massive proportions to ease getting into and out of his wheelchair, and otherwise maneuvering himself around.

Trump compensated for whatever issue he had with drinking with one hand by helping with his other hand. Did this physical issue make him venal, amoral and willfully ignorant as well? Unlikely, and obsessions with physical peculiarities easily slide into ableism.

People in their 30's or 40's look at "almost 80" and think if they are making noises getting up off the floor, starting to get arms too short to read, can remember why they went in a room .... then 78 is just this side of disabled. They'll find out with good self care and medical care, the process slows down in the 60's for a lot of people.

78 has it's issues for sure, but if someone's genetics and good habits will push them to 90's then someone might have another 20 years to contribute.

Gotta remember GHWB was still jumping solo at 80 and tandem at 90.

This bothered me a lot, and still does because he's still alive after all these years! Is was less of a deal with McCain, but it was there. And you are correct, we heard nothing about age when Trump ran.

I was too young to know, but how was it with Reagan's age in 1980? I know it was brought up in 1984.
