(58,598 posts)Too bad, but the usual repub character issues popped up to bite them.
The jury is kind of out on how effective they really were in the elections. They provided Dems with a lot of feel good vids, but I don't know that they actually shifted any votes.

(36,421 posts)Founder of anti-Trump Lincoln Project registers as a Utah Democrat
Park City resident Steve Schmidt has talked about running against Sen. Mike Lee in 2022.

Schmidts party change could bring a much-needed jolt for Utahs beleaguered Democrats. They have not won a statewide election since Jan Graham was reelected attorney general in 1996. Democrats are outnumbered in Utah by Republicans by more than 3-to-1. There are more than twice as many unaffiliated voters as Democrats in the state. Last month, Democrats gained only a single seat in the Utah House while they saw the states Washington delegation go all Republican as Rep. Ben McAdams lost his reelection bid.
Mr. Schmidt isnt the first Republican to change his party affiliation and he wont be the last, said Utah Democratic Party chair Jeffrey Merchant in a text message. I deeply appreciate him and so many others who recognize Democrats are open to many perspectives and points of view. I welcome him to the Party, and am excited to have his involvement and insight.
Schmidt might make an impact in Utah sooner than you may think. He has openly mused about challenging Sen. Mike Lee in 2022 when he is up for reelection.
Thinking about it, Schmidt said on Twitter. Would be a fun race. Hard to win. I wouldnt go into it to win so much as I would be to strip his sanctimony, BS and hypocricy bear (sic).
Bernie Sanders was right back in 2015 when he said there are only two parties that have the infrastructure to get to the the White House (& IMO, most federal & state offices, too) & one is through the Democratic Party & the other is through the Republican Party. The Republican Party is in a battle for the infrastructure of their party & it's not looking good for the moderates. There is no way disaffected repubs are going to build a viable third party in a few years. I predict some will join our party, but most will either go independent or unaffiliated, but will still vote repub.

(4,454 posts)TLP is made up of the very people who paved the way for Trump, then saw themselves getting cut out of the spoils. So, they tried to deal themselves back in by bringing their only major skill, "ratfucking", and acting against Trump, while getting paid by the Left. They raised something like $90+ million, with about half of that funneled into their own pockets.
Now, they have been caught, and are imploding into a shitstorm, smearing everyone who got in bed with them while chanting "the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Good luck getting the stains out.
Any time people find themselves believing they can work with a "rational conservative", they should remember:
Conservatives steal and cheat, because that is what conservatives do.
Conservatives sexually harass people, because that is what conservatives do.
Conservatives treat any perceived "inferior" like shit, because that is what conservatives do.
Conservatives knife their friends/allies/useful idiots in the back once once they have outlived their usefulness, because that is what conservatives do.
Conservatives lie about everything, because that is what conservatives do.

I like converts. They sometimes have the best information. I think he is smart and AFAIK, he's on the level.
