Read the full article for specifics on the men's brutal treatment of women in their lives.
Experts have linked extremism to violent misogyny in recent years, especially in the wake of mass shootings in which the perpetrators had a history of violence against women. These violent behaviors exist on a spectrum ― and, of course, not all abusive men turn into killers ― but violence against women often begets more violence, sometimes deadly. Three people died as a direct result of the violence at the Capitol, and more than 140 law enforcement officers were injured during the riot. Two U.S. Capitol Police officers have died by suicide in the aftermath . . .
Many people rightly see Jan. 6 as a tipping point when Trumps anti-democratic tendencies and conspiracy-mongering finally provoked a genuine disaster. But it was also the crescendo of his yearslong embrace of misogyny and toxic behavior toward women. Trump has been accused of sexual misconduct, ranging from harassment to rape, by more than 20 women. He filled his Cabinet and senior staff with accused domestic abusers. A month before the 2016 presidential election, he was caught on leaked audio bragging about grabbing women by the pussy.
Trump validated these men and how they view women by saying what he said on the bus with Billy Bush and by ignoring everything that happened afterwards. He validated their version of toxic masculinity, said Dr. Miranda Christou, a senior fellow focusing on gender and extremism at the Centre for Analysis of the Radical Right.
Misogyny and the toxic version of masculinity that Trump represents is the glue that brought the insurrectionists together, Christou said.

(21,055 posts)All the guys I know who are mf45 supporters are sexist pigs. When Im working on a move management job and encounter these guys I keep my distance from them. If I have to give them a direction I say it to everyone aloud and the mf45 supporters never move but luckily other workers do.

(2,636 posts)They seem to fit a pattern of violent tendencies. Many have other arrests and run ins that previewed violence to come.
One guy I know from high school is a big trumper and very supportive of the insurrection in the first days. Big guy, offensive lineman type, builds houses, like his dad did before him.
He bounced at one or two of my parties when we were in our early 20s. Invite three people, and 300 show up. He said, in context of a larger conversation, that he and the boys from high school liked to bounce at parties for two reasons. 1. to be close to the kegs. 2. to get to "fight for free."
Those drawn to this Nationalist Fascist party are those who are already prone to violence. The guys who still "bounce" and use their size to intimidate, who look forward to getting to crack heads. They win by violence of all kinds.
