Josh Hawleys role in inciting the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th has been widely acknowledged. Hawley was the first senator to pledge to object to counting Joe Bidens completely legitimate electoral votes, giving a strong air of legitimacy to Donald Trumps false claims that those votes were rigged or stolen.
The photograph taken of him in the hours before the riot, holding his fist up to the soon-to-be violent insurrectionists, speaks volumes.
Following the riot, Hawley seemed to see a bit of pushback. His book deal with Simon & Schuster was canceled (and then rebought under a conservative imprint distributed by S&S). Corporate donors including Marriott (which also canceled some of Hawleys scheduled events), Dow, and Missouri-based Hallmark announced they were suspending political contributions to Hawley and others who objected to counting those electoral votes and in some cases even requesting their past donations be returned. Hawley said he was being muzzled and censoreda claim he was able to make in a front-page op-ed in a major publication, like all truly censored people.

But despite all of that, it turns out helping incite an insurrection is actually a fine financial move, even a great one. After the events on the 6th, January ended up being Hawleys biggest fundraising month of his entire career to date, bringing in thousands of new donors who apparently dont careor, more realistically, lovethat he tried to stop the peaceful transfer of power to our legitimately elected new president.

I dont think people realize just how much danger were still in. Were one election cycle from full on fascism. And we will be for a long time unless something is done about these bastards.

(22,112 posts)sickens me. I will vow to support any decent candidate that runs against josh 'overbite' hawley. With money. Scumbag is literally causing people in MO to sit up and take notice of him. And what's funny about it, is that you don't hear much from the primary Senator, Roy Blunt. Now I know that Roy doesn't mouth off as much as 'overbite' does, and that's keeping in tradition w/ Missourian politicians. A fine attribute. If you don't have anything good to say, then don't say anything.
'Overbite' hawley came from a tiny, literally unknown town in MO, located east of KCMO. I wish that he stayed there. It's amazing that our main reps for Missouri don't come from either of the two big Missouri cities. Talk about rigging voting districts...MO is rift w/ them.
And our legislature is rift w/ republicans too. We have a long way to go.
Roy Blunt does have a possible candidate running against him in 2022. I will keep an eye out and of course try and support this candidate. For FYI:
Scott Sifton, a former state representative and state senator, announced his candidacy on Monday. In his campaign launch video, Sifton accused Blunt and Josh Hawley, the state's junior senator, of not speaking out against the false allegations of election fraud spread by former President Donald Trump and members of the Republican Party.

(1,849 posts)Can we track them, investigate them, watch them? Corporate donors have pulled back, but individuals who contributed are clearly sympathetic to his fascist agenda.
Didn't one of the inciters (tubberman?) say it's time to start taking names?!?
