I've said it before but I guess it doesn't hurt to say it again.
The word "riot" is totally insufficient when used to describe what happened at the Capitol on Jan 6. This was not your standard, run-of-the-mill, mass violence. This was a planned, premeditated occurrence that had the intention of overthrowing a duly-elected, democratic government. It was an insurrection, and that is how it should be referred to.
Calling what happened a mere "riot" strips the incident of its meaning and fails to appreciate what the consequences could have been if it wasn't for some very fortunate coincidences and brave, quick-thinking people.
Yes, "insurrection" has three times the letters "riot" does, and it takes so much longer to type out. Geez, how many "r's" are even in it? And it's so much harder to compare Jan 6 to BLM protests if you label Jan 6 properly.
Even so, it's just as well we make sure we're using accurate terminology and diction when discussing such important events in our nation's history.
