Facebook's overlords can tweak algorithms very effectively and try to sway political opinion in whatever fashion they choose. When the left has candidates like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and AOC advocating the break up of Facebook, Google, Amazon and Apple for reasons of anti-trust, you don't tend to make friends with the likes of Zuckerberg.

Do you admire them and their tactics and style? Remember, it was our party that won the presidency, the House, and (barely) the Senate. We’re all right, Jack.

Let them play on Facebook, with their fabrications, scream headlines, and faux grievances. I don’t really want to be like that side. Maybe that’s just me, but I can’t help not wanting to dive into the populist cesspool.

7. It is this attitude that does nothing to promote the Democratic effort.

We may barely hang on to the house and senate in 2022. We may very lose the white house in 2024.

Democrats passed the civil rights act won the space race and tried to end the Vietnam war for their efforts we got 8 years of Nixon and his corruption. Carter came along and was a basically decent human being. A good president but not great. We were then rewarded with 12 years of Reagan and Bush. Clinton comes along gets the economy humming and jobs came back in a big way. The stock market exploded. We then get 8 years of Bush and in your face corruption. Obama dug the US out of an economic tailspin that is still hard to fathom. Then we get the fascist racism of Trump. Now we have a ticket headed by some very sensible and reasonable people. Wonder who will replace them? Something worse.

Doing the right thing and passing good legislation DOES NOT win elections. Republican messaging is waaaayyy better. During the second impeachment trial I was much more aware of what Lindsay Graham said and thought than I was of Schumer's thoughts. Republicans understand they are selling a product and they work very hard to market that product. Democrats think merely making a good product will win the hearts and minds of America. The voting populace needs to be marketed to. They need to be sold something. For decades every repuke on television and radio sells the republican ideology. Democrats just point out that repukes suck. Not much of a winning strategy based on history.

Don't try and tell me progress has been made. That's bullshit. Racism is as strong now as it was in the 50s. People have LESS money to spend b/c repukes believe in welfare for the rich and not for brown people. What do we have? Welfare for the rich and increasing poverty among minorities. Wages are down b/c repukes sold the message unions are bad and we can't get people to even agree that a measly $15/hr is not corruption. RepuQe messaging is so much better that Americans think racism is better than socialism.

Acting above the fray 'and not wanting to wade into the populist cesspool' only improves your feelings and does nothing to improve America. There is nothing wrong with promoting on facebook and other social media platforms. Hell, I have a facebook page for my business. Am I scum, too?

What better messaging formats are you aware of that are better than Facebook and twitter? I am not arguing for only using those social media platforms. To state that they are wastes of time and no good clearly ignores all the evidence to the contrary. The attack on the capital was heavily influenced by social media. Simply because something influenced a bad event does not make the tool bad. I have hit my hand with hammers on many occasions should I throw out my hammer b/c the tool had bad results? I don't think I will do that. I think I will engage in using the tool better. Guns kill. They also defend and provide food through hunting.

Democrats can embrace social media to further their agenda. It is a tool that is here and very popular. Use it to our advantage. Simply poo pooing it b/c repukes use it doesn't help. It ignores an incredibly useful methodology of getting the word out. They use VERY effectively. Dems can learn to be effective with it, too. Acting like we are above all that is killing us. I, for one, am very proud of what Democrats want and are capable of achieving. I think more boastful pride in that would do us a world of good.

Facebook and twitter exist and can be beneficial. Giving that advantage to our enemy will not help us at all.

Basically, your argument against facebook is republicans used it. That is a very weak argument. They use cars and voting as well should we just abandon them b/c requkes use them, too? You seem to just have a thing against facebook.
