If so, who would be the Democrat in the House that you would like to see lead the House in 2022? I think it needs to be someone who has serious legislative experience and great communication skills.
After watching the House Impeachment Manager in action, Rep. Raskin would seem to fit the bill.

What's funny tho is it seems like you need different types of people depending on who runs WH. Do you think so? Like with the ultimate devil in there for four years we didn't have a policy leader. I personally think given the horrible unique circumstances of trump the former presidents should have stepped in in some kind of ad hoc background role.

Speaker Pelosi has been fantastic. She does not hesitate to speak her mind in plain and clear terms. That's what we need as D leadership.
If Adam Schiff had the choice to be Speaker vs. CA AG, it would be a tough one. I would be happy either way (since we live in CA!)

She doesn't I think she's about had it. She's great though. No one needs to go through what she has been through.

(7,715 posts)Listening to Rep. Raskin, he seems to have been around forever. However, he is relatively new to the House.
There are SO MANY great Dems to become Speaker if Nancy Pelosi wants to move on. And let's be clear: Speaker Pelosi has been WONDERFUL. The RWNJs hate her with a passion because she represents most of San Francisco. The Bay Area is particularly hated by the the RW.
I couldn't care less: Nancy Pelosi, in many respects, was the key person in the last four years who was the one effective check on trump.
I agree: we need a long-termer to take Speaker Pelosi's brilliant leadership if/when she decides to let it go.

Same goes for the Senate. Since 2000 every democratic nominee for president had been senator but none of them would have had interest in being Senate leader.

(32,133 posts)Not saying that should be a qualifying criteria, but why would that be a negative? Talking tough to Republicans is something I want Democrats to do. We are in apolitical war. And that war is being fought on social media. If someone is making public statements as a politician, it is not a bad metric to measure in this digital world we live in.

My gut says she's mentoring him for that role.
He's polished, likeable, sharp as a tack, and smart enough to build relationships.

(32,133 posts)He comes across this way to me too. I know nothing of his inside game, though; but - if Madame Speaker thinks he's an excellent choice to succeed her, who am I to disagree? If and when she makes a retirement announcement as SotH, I would bet that she'll make a very public endorsement as to who she'd like to see in her seat and why.

Schiff and Raskin are brilliant, great public servants. But that doesn't mean they can or want to be in charge. I think most people don't realize what being Speaker entails.

(55,334 posts)Nancy has served her country amazingly. She's got a specific set of skills, like Liam Neeson specific, so you need someone who run a railroad and run a screenplay. I like Hakeem Jeffries, though I don't know much about him. But then again, the best next Speaker may not be the one who focuses on getting headlines, but rather one who gets results. We need someone who'll bring someone from the Squad into the leadership. Ayanna Pressley is probably the best suited for a deputy whip position.

(1,654 posts)I think Jeffries fits that bill too. I think except for the Insurrection, Nancy is enjoying this term. She's not holding back as much as she used to. Doesn't hold her tongue as much. I think she's a little tired of that.

(32,133 posts)She masterfully kept Trump in check until the voters could fix. For that, I will always honor her. As a Tip O'Neil kind of Dem (on most issues).
