They'll secede just as they learn to build an electric grid. Until then, Joe oughta help em so they can run him outta the state again

(15,976 posts)It has been out most of the day and it isn't a laughing matter.
I love my state and it's good to know you want us to freeze.
And shame on you

(25,734 posts)They had rolling blackouts, but now the power stays on for only a minute and then it dies again.
My house did not have a rolling blackout, but homes less than a mile away, have had this issue all day. Same with other areas.

(15,976 posts)I'm hunkering down in bed with multiple blankets, cats
I have 4 thermal tops, over shirt, sweater, 2 pairs of fleeced lined pants, and I now donned my fur cap.
And it's still cold.
I'm really worried about other people affected as well.
This really ISN'T a laughing matter.

(16,204 posts)I've lost the furnace twice due to parts and lost power for days after heavy wet snows.
I didn't have it for 2 days in this Snow Storm

(15,976 posts)As usual no concerns for the people, just how they can make a profit.
Meanwhile they'll distract us with bullshit legislation on transgender issue s.

(118,379 posts)I know they don't ever get enough practice with cold weather to be ready for it. I've done my share of time walking streets there after ice storms, listening to the cars in the distance speeding home on the frozen streets and knowing from the sound which ones were going to crash. I just got off the phone with an elderly relative who's worried her plumbing will crack
I'm sorry you're cold
The state is controlled by rightwing morons: it's the main reason I left and don't move back

(15,976 posts)Family, friends, and a lot of good people. So, while I'm here I will continue to work to make Texas Blue.
On one very important note, Tarrant County turned blue this year, which made me extremely happy. Especially after working 2016 as the Alternate Judge and having to help first time voters cast their ballot for him. Old people finally voting for the Insurrectionist in Chief for their very first time. And after DU went down I knew we were in dire straits. And it told me the kind of people he attracts!

(8,104 posts)I am soooo sorry you guys are going through this! I was born and raised in Corpus. I moved to California when I was 30 y.o. so I've been here most of my adult life.
I still have close friends and close family who've lived in Texas their whole lives. My nephew works for a new non-profit called The Blue Squad (in Austin). Their goal is to turn as many seats blue as possible. I believe TX will be blue at some point in the next few cycles.
There are some absolutely WONDERFUL progressives in Texas! Texas gave the world Molly Ivans, Dan Rather, Jim Hightower, Ann Richards, Willie Nelson, Stevie Ray Vaugh, and many, many other talented and devoted people who are committed to progressive goals.
I just received a text from one of my childhood friends (and I'm so proud to say a "New Democrat" who voted for Joe & Kamala). She told me that voting for trump in 2016 was literally the biggest mistake she's made in her entire life. My friend has never paid attention to politics and grew up Republican. In 2016, all she knew about trump was that he was (or so she thought) a successful businessman and thought why not see what someone who hasn't been a political lifer can do. She's very much an outdoors person who likes to hike, birdwatch, go on long bike rides, etc. so she's never been one to stay indoors watching political shows and going to political websites.
But over the course of these four years she's been horrified. She simply didn't know what kind of man trump was. I think this may be the case in more situations than we realize. At least I hope so.
She just texted me that she hasn't had power since 4 a.m. this morning but had a generator ready to go (in case of hurricanes).
I'm sending good vibes and thoughts your way, MagickMuffin...And hope that things turn around soon....

(153,268 posts)do "rollouts" last nine hours? (mine was off nine hours, back for 30 mins, then off for 6 hours)... I think not.....fact is, Texas couldn't handle two days of cold
