"SNIP....
In an emergency vote Monday night, North Carolinas Republican Party voted unanimously to censure Sen. Richard Burr, just two days after the retiring Republican cast a guilty vote in former President Donald Trumps second impeachment trial, the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Burr called it a truly sad day for state Republicans.
He added: My partys leadership has chosen loyalty to one man over the core principles of the Republican Party and the founders of our great nation.

(54,268 posts)Just what ARE the core principles of the Republican Party these days?
When he gets his surprising and disgusting answer.....
He can then declare himself Independent and do what he wants for the remainder of his term.

(1,849 posts)I'm not one to be impressed by lineage, but the current Burr, who is my senator, showed some spine and loyalty to country over party. He shocked and surprised me with his vote.

(1,849 posts)As a NC resident and constituent, my message paraphrased below.
I commend him, thank him, and approve and respect his vote to choose country over party.
I was sorry he was retiring, and would vote for him if he ran again (ok, that was a lie!)
I'm sorry the republican party of NC censured him, but he can console himself and be proud knowing he'd gotten into "good trouble" like John Lewis.
Many in NC appreciate his vote of conscience and principle, and respect him for it.
What I didn't say: I've had no use for either NC senator up until now
Considering all the times I've contacted his office to advocate for or against legislation, and never had cause to say thank you, I wanted to take this opportunity to do so.
Next call will be to Tillis, to tell him how disappointed I am by his vote. I will also (lie and) tell him I voted for him and regret that vote. And the fact that he put party over country was a dereliction of his oath and duty as a senator. And he should be ashamed of himself. And many North Carolinians respect and appreciate and approve of senator Burr.
