I'm especially familiar with President Carter since I have his autobiography (on audio - read by the author - and have listened to it in my car numerous times) and he talks about his musical interests and the talented performers of all types that he was able to host in the White House. When he was at Annapolis, he roomed with a classical pianist and they would listen to opera, he said when it came to the crescendos, fellow students would gather outside their door to listen as well!
