Bishop of a Mexican state on the U.S. border says masks mean no trust/faith in God

Ah these oh-so-“religious” (as opposed to “spiritual”) people. So whatever happened to “God helps those who help themselves (the teeniest little bit)”? Like the joke about the bitter Bible thumper on a cloud in Heaven, who had refused all warnings about a flood and drowned on his roof covered by water, and angrily reproached God about the unsatisfactory return on his Faith in God. And God sighed wearily, “I sent you a Jeep (National Guard), I sent you a boat, I sent you a helicopter…”

I've got a sacred quote (perhaps inexact) for all of them. For the Jehovah's Witnesses, "If you are not received well, shake the dust from your sandals (and beat feet)." ---------or one of my own originals, when a couple of dress-shirt/ties male Witnesses accosted me while I was watering, “May we talk with you?” Me: “If it’s about religion, no.” Him: “Oh. Not about religion. Can we talk about the Bible?” Me: “What did I *SAY*?!”

How’s this (bishop, below) for a face to start a Crusade, Inquisition, or mass deaths? I asked an 85 year old cousin who is a practitioner of the good kind why doesn't the Pope rein in the wingnut fringe of his bishops, and he explained that the Pope is only The Bishop of Rome, not the boss of the bishops.

Usar cubrebocas ante covid-19 es no confiar en Dios, dice obispo de Ciudad Victoria

If God didn't want us to wear masks, why did he give us epidemiological experts who tell us to wear masks to save ourselves?

The Bible teaches that God helps those who help themselves (2 Thessalonians 3:10, James 4:8); and God helps those who cannot help themselves (the parable of the Pharisee and the Publican, Ephesians 2:4–5, Romans 4:4–5). What does the Bible say about God helping someone who won't help themselves? The Bible says, “if any would not work, neither should he eat” (2 Thessalonians 3:10). This does not say if a person can't work, but that he or she will not work (or help themselves).

So many of these so-called Christians refuse to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.

But the ones who do, they retell this story of the drowning man:

A fellow was stuck on his rooftop in a flood. He was praying to God for help.

Soon a man in a rowboat came by and the fellow shouted to the man on the roof, "Jump in, I can save you."

The stranded fellow shouted back, "No, it's OK, I'm praying to God and he is going to save me."

So the rowboat went on.

Then a motorboat came by. "The fellow in the motorboat shouted, "Jump in, I can save you."

To this the stranded man said, "No thanks, I'm praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith."

So the motorboat went on.

Then a helicopter came by and the pilot shouted down, "Grab this rope and I will lift you to safety."

To this the stranded man again replied, "No thanks, I'm praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith."

So the helicopter reluctantly flew away.

Soon the water rose above the rooftop and the man drowned. He went to Heaven. He finally got his chance to discuss this whole situation with God, at which point he exclaimed, "I had faith in you but you didn't save me, you let me drown. I don't understand why!"

To this God replied, "I sent you a rowboat and a motorboat and a helicopter, what more did you expect?"
