YOU CANNOT FIX THIS LEVEL OF STUPIDITY:A poll conducted by the conservative American Enterprise Institute that was published this Thursday found that 29 precent of Republicans and 27 percent of white evangelicals believe that the QAnon conspiracy theory is completely or mostly true, the Religion News Service reports.
The percentage of white evangelicals who believe the theorys fraudulent claims represent the largest out of any religious group.
Daniel Cox, who is the director of AEIs Survey Center on American Life, said the report suggests conspiracy theories have a wide range of support, but especially when it comes to white evangelicals.
According to Cox, the conspiracy theory is growing in popularity thanks to social echo chambers.
That kind of environment is really important when it comes to embracing this kind of thinking, he said. Youre seeing people embrace this sort of conspiratorial thinking, and everyone in their social circle is like, Yeah, that sounds right to me, versus someone saying, You know, we should look at this credulously.
White evangelicals are advocates of other conspiracy theories as well, the poll revealed.
Close to two-thirds (62%) believe there was widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election despite numerous experts and courts at all levels refuting such claims and roughly the same percentage (63%) believe President Joe Bidens victory was not legitimate,' RNS reports. A majority (55%) also said they believed it was mostly or completely accurate to say a group of unelected government officials in Washington, D.C., referred to as the Deep State (has) been working to undermine the Trump administration.'

(2,173 posts)Is an evangelical. She believes in many wild conspiracy theories. Oh, her and many of her friends avidly disavow the belief that premarital sex is wrong.
They have the greatest scam going. As one of her "pastors" told me, when you accept Jesus Christ as your savior and only way into heaven, all your past, present, and future sins are forgiven. I literally laughed in his face. Off the record, he knew his con wasn't working with me per a follow-up conversation he and I had after my divorce.

(511 posts)That only path to heaven doctrine. Once again, the manipulation of Christs teaching so they can do as they choose and be saved. There should be a prerequisite that they actually sit down and learn scripture.

I believe that Jesuss message is misinterpreted. When he says only through him can one get to heaven, I think it meant that through his teachings I.e. love for neighbor, sermon on mount, etc. is the key to heaven, not personal loyalty to him.

(27,835 posts)... from so-called 'Christians' who willingly believed that Trump - a lying, thieving, pussy-grabber - was 'chosen by God' to be pResident?
As I've always said, the Republicans cater to Evangelicals because they're easily-manipulated voters, who will swallow absolutely anything - including wacky CTs.
The irony here is that the less confidence these people have in the voting system, the less likely they are to vote at all.

And everything ends up being The Satan Conspiracy. Once you posit an immortal, infinitely patient, infinitely devious mastermind, there's an excuse for any level of nonsense.

(511 posts)Then the survey makes sense. Inclusive would then be the Evangelical Christian Doctrine, which boils down to:
1. Lets twist the scriptures to fit our personal need so we can perpetuate a world where white privilege rules and the rest of humanity is, well, not even human
2. Always remember that Christ was not a man of color or a Jew. Doing so assured us that we have no apostolic succession to reality
3. Make sure we fund heretical preachers like Franklin Graham so that we can believe that a lying rapist like Donald Trump is the chosen one
4. And when we attack democracy, dont forget our Jesus and confederate flags.

(2,574 posts)so we have to figure out ways to quarantine it from causing harm to innocent people, to the best of our ability. Stupid is relentless, and it will be difficult to effectively quarantine it just by voting it into submission.
If stupid reaches critical mass in the US, we'll end up with a form of brutal, Nazi like fascism.
I hope Senators Manchin and Sinema reconsider their opposition to ending the filibuster, before it is too late.

(24,210 posts)Evangelicals advocate for fascism, that's what they think their religion dictates. In modern America, their primary enemy to them, above minorities and even atheists, is women. Evangelicals blame women for all of the society's problems and are hellbent on subjugating women by any means necessary, usually through violence. So yeah, Trump works for them because he too hates women and shows violence towards them.
If you notice the Q theory with a giant pedophile ring, the first 2 names they mention are Hillary and Nancy. Two powerful and accomplished women. It's no coincidence. Religion has been being used to brutalizing women for thousands of years, no shock that Evangelicals are enthusiastic about continuing that tradition.

If you demand actual evidence for things, you will not be taken in by conspiracy theories.
