These storms are an indication of what is coming because of climate change.

Extreme weather patterns are going to become more an more common.

The time to prepare is now.

Most every day, for the past several years, I spend anywhere from a few minutes to the entire day working on preparing for what the best science available says climate change will bring to the area I live in.

As the years go by, the extreme weather patterns and events will become more and more common.

So there is less temperature difference in the atmosphere to drive circulation patterns, jet stream, etc.

Weather may become less extreme as a result.

The waves or meanders of the jet stream propagate around the earth. Their speed of propagation is slowing. Therefore, a loop southward can stay in place longer, as is the current case.

Whether this change in behavior persists as the jets weaken further is unknown.

The real big change in circulation will be if the easterly subtropical jet stays north of the Himalayas during the winter. It's current bistable operation south of the mountains in the winter and north in the summer helps drive the Indian monsoons.

Last week it was 73. Roads iced over. High today 27. Usually in 50's and 60's this time of year. Southerners don't do Winter. That's why we live here. I can handle heat and humidity. It's in my DNA.

The types of things that will kill you probably aren't the severe weather events. It's the most common problems like mosquitos and ticks getting bigger ranges that will kill millions.

The time to prepare was 1976. Since we've sat on our asses for 45 years, our options are a lot more limited than they would have been.

IMHO this was the greatest tragedy of the Trump administration. Four years completely wasted - really the last four years where action could have been taken to stop catastrophic mass extinctions world-wide. Now we're going to have to completely overhaul our economy and likely also governance systems just to hold climate change at the point where it won't wipe out us as well.
