Many Red States are propped up, subsidized by Blue States through our higher incomes & taxes. We put more in the coffers. It's why talk of succession is nuts because most of these low-tax states could never survive independently.

Ted Cruz knows this but like his Republican colleagues depend on the willful ignorance of their constituencies and their own myth-making. Cruz in particular has no problem calling for Federal financial help during an emergency situation in Texas but is equally quick to deny help to Blue States in similar emergencies.
