Usually driving from Harlingen or McAllen to Brownsville, or vice versa. Not much to see in San Benito, other than that.

Cool Hand Luke was filmed in the San Joaquin River Delta region. The set, imitating a southern prison farm, was built in Stockton, California. The filmmakers sent a crew to Tavares Road Prison in Tavares, Florida, where Pearce had served his time, to take photographs and measurements.

Cool Cool Hand Luke factoid: When Luke is informed of his mother's death, he sings the song "Plastic Jesus" while playing the banjo. Newman is really playing the banjo in the film. He didn't know how to before the movie, but producers delayed filming of this scene so Newman had enough time to learn how to play it.

Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry, was filmed there and I lived near the draw bridge they flew over as it opened.

A ton of other movies that were filmed in or near Stockton are listed here:

I grew up on the delta, lived on or next to a levee in two different locations when not living in other cities.
