she just repeated everything she said in the first part of her show.

(8,960 posts)Sometimes she has to do it with 15 minutes worth of material. So shell take 45 to get to the point. On slow news days the last 15 minutes are the most worthwhile.

(53,743 posts)Wonder if it's still the case that many people don't want to come on her show and subject themselves to her scrutiny (mostly republicans of course)?
Maybe she should give herself a break and try to book more guests. Other hosts do it.

(15,799 posts)in which James Burke explained how events and devices came into being. I remember looking forward to those episodes, there was always something to be learned and understood. For much the same reason I look forward to Maddow's show. She and her staff do exceptional research.

(15 posts)This program changed the course of my life - as a child I had no appreciation of history beyond a record of dates and historical figures.
James Burke provided such a unique and profound view of history showing actual "cause and effect" of arbitrary and random events throughout history. It should be the basis of all elementary and secondary school curriculum's.

(204,779 posts)There have been countless times when she's had someone on her show who we may not necessarily agree with - and she always asks if she was accurate in describing their issues/positions and I have never heard anyone correct her. And she always manages to explain the most complicated issue so clearly that anyone can understand. She's the best.

(58,785 posts)It's not at all about filling a highly competitive prime time slot with waste because she didn't prepare enough to talk about, a frankly ridiculous idea. Most nights her repetitions roll out okay, but some nights they're more noticeable and come off as more tedious.
Also, her regular strategy is to start by describing a history and context into which the current event will be set for much greater understanding than just reporting the current event could provide. This is a big part of what's made her show so popular and stand out from what comes before and after.
Of course we've seen that the Trump/Repub chaos generated such a cascade of news that she, and others, often had to abandon their planned show many nights and just plow straight through the happenings, often still ongoing during the evening.

(15 posts)The Rachel Maddow Show ..the only place in the world where you can watch a Giraffe beat a Dead Horse...
no disrespect intended - think she is brilliant...perhaps years on the radio trying to avoid "dead air" corrupted her speech patterns and delivery

Dumb people need things repeated three times to sink in, almost like saying Beetlejuice.

(54,302 posts)In late 1978, after spending a year in the USA to see if we were "compatible long term," my wife and I were on a Lufthansa plane from Boston to Frankfurt. The pilot came on while we were still on the ground, and made his announcements. My wife suddenly turned to me and asked, "warum sagt er das alles noch mal (why is he saying that all over again)?"
After a year in the USA, it was so natural for her to use both English and German that she hadn't even noticed that the pilot had made his announcement first in English, and then again in German. To her, he was just repeating himself, and she couldn't figure out why.
