'Get off your a** and take care of your own family': Texas mayor quits after calling snowed-in residents 'lazy' and attacking them for complaining about power outages as he warns 'the weak will perish'
Tim Boyd was mayor of Colorado City, 220 miles west of Dallas, until Tuesday
He attacked the town's 4,000 residents on Facebook in a post that went viral
Boyd called them 'lazy' and said they were socialists seeking handouts
In a second post he said he had already resigned and was a private citizen
Texas is experiencing the worst cold snap in decades with freezing weather
In his town over a quarter of the homes were without power on Tuesday

(2,336 posts)According to dictionary.com a parish is:
1) an ecclesiastical district having its own church and member of the clergy.
2) a local church with its field of activity.
3) (in Louisiana) a county.
4) the people of an ecclesiastical or civil parish.
He also can't spell so good thing he resigned. Maybe Texans need some better candidates for office?

It is bad here in Texas. Gov Abbott going on air and screaming about it is ludicrous. He is and has been major driver of this shit!!
Especially since Highland Park has not lost any power at all. It has been noticed!!
Where we live in North Dallas, we have not been without either. I'm up and trying still to figure it out.
I have a few ideas but not sure. I am grateful and wish there was something I/we could do.

(4,007 posts)..anyone in Texas, even die-hard MAGATS, truly believe that EVERYONE with a "D" after their name is responsible for this Texas-sized disaster but him and his administration?
I do hope those MAGATS and only those folks are getting the worst of this man-made disaster.

(63,221 posts)How did this guy ever get to be mayor of anything?
Although you have to give him credit for perfectly summing up the republican mentality. They all think that way until THEY need help.

(21,447 posts)I once knew a woman who told me about her pastor's prosperity Gospel sermons. Basically, he taught that God rewards the righteous with material goods in this life and spiritual salvation in the next. Therefore, whenever a righteous person (meaning a member of his church) saw an opportunity to gain, he/she should take it and not worry if hurt someone else. God had ordained opportunity and a good life for the righteous, so if the righteous benefit from someone else's hard times, or live well at the expense of others, it is God's punishment on the unworthy that they should suffer. Guilt free exploitation of people in God's name.
This woman was an acquaintance to me, the cousin of a friend of mine. I stayed clear of her since she always had a predatory smugness about her that made me hold my purse more closely when she was around.

Of course this is refuted by Jesus himself in Luke 16:
19 There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich mans table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abrahams side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.
25 But Abraham replied, Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony.

(21,447 posts)I am familiar with the story of the rich man and Lazarus, as well as Jesus' other teachings on wealth, faith, and caring for others plus the apostles' teachings and actions on caring for one another.
That's what made the woman's and her pastor's perversion of Christian teachings so repulsive to me. I told her that I never saw anything in the Sermon on the Mount about blessed are the predators.

(1,568 posts)How the hell have these people became so twisted that this passes as an acceptable attitude? The power companies don't owe anyone anything? Well, if you pay them to provide service, yes they do. I would love to waterboard this guy for fun. I know it's wrong and stuff, but I cannot tolerate people like this any longer. This isn't even conservativism or whatever, it's sociopathic.

(47,425 posts)forgot what the purpose of government was. What did he think being mayor was about?
I can imagine that living in that relatively small community is going to be really rough for that guy, after insulting the people who had elected him.

(4,973 posts)You can apply that statement to all idiot GOP so-called leaders that have been elected. They obviously think they were elected to serve themselves, no one else.
PatSeg
(47,425 posts)They obviously want the title, status, and perks of the office, but not the responsibilities that go along with it. I wonder what he ran on - "Elect me as mayor and I promise I won't insult your integrity by doing anything for you"?
mdbl
(4,973 posts)That is about how it is on all governmental levels with these morons.
PatSeg
(47,425 posts)They run against government and then sit back and enjoy all that government has to offer them. I can't believe the suckers kept falling for that line over and over again. "Big government is bad for you, the voters, but it is ever so good for ME. Now send me some more money, so I can keep big government out of your lives."
Sapient Donkey

(1,568 posts)who put absolutely zero thought into anything he was said. Instead he was just saying stuff that he thinks he's supposed to say and feel. Doesn't excuse it, but for reason I felt slightly less angry after coming to the conclusion that he's a brain dead moron as opposed to some calculating scum bag. I amazed that any town would elect this guy to be in charge of anything. Should be interesting how he feels about the role of government when he's out of work and can't afford to support him or his family.

(13 posts)If you call yourself a christian, let me ask you one question. Did you die for your sins or did someone else take your place and give his life for you? And if he did that for you did you earn it? Were your worthy?

(1,202 posts)If you're a Christian, please do not take offense to what I'm about to state. I was born and raised a Catholic but this has always troubled me.
What parent would let their child die when they could either die in his/her place, or prevent the catastrophe? Meaning, I cringe when I read/hear that God sacrificed His only Son for our sins. Hell, I have put my life on the line for total strangers as have others. I would never let a loved one die in my place.
