President Biden gave a very direct answer to forgiveness of 50K of student loans at last

nights town hall. He said no. He would support up to 10K of forgiveness, and push for 0% interest on those loans, along with somehow incorporating some type of volunteer service to be used as a way to pay down those loans.

At least that was the full context that I gathered from his answer, and I would hope when this is reported by the media, that the full context of the answer is given.

Whether people agree or disagree on the answer, it is important that the full context is presented, and this applies to anything

If we want a more intelligent populace, the costs of higher education need to be much lower.
The Rs know that a smart public would be liberal, so they will be against lowering costs.

I know quite a few people with college degrees that show no "intelligence" whatsoever. They may have some knowledge on a particular subject however. In my mind, college isn't the answer. It's in elementary through high school. Critical thinking and life skills need to be taught. We already have the student body in place (except for homeschooling), so a change in curriculum would need to be implemented.

There will always be those who are able to get through a college curriculum by cheating or just learning the minimum. That has nothing to do with the value of an college degree. A college degree is becoming a minimum these days just to be considered for almost any job with decent pay.

Do not reflect that. I clicked just a few minutes ago, thinking what this fresh hell was. Headline very misleading at CNN making one think Biden was rejecting the idea wholly. ASSHOLES! Tired of it. Refreshed headlines everyday about Stimulus, Unemployment, Tax breaks, etc and an entire article that addresses nothing new, nothing newsworthy a whole lotta nothing.
It appears Biden is definitely on board, just not to 50 Grand. Seems like 10, and then a progression of forgiveness based on community service. Which to me is only addressing the current economic crises and not the fact of predatory learning institutions.

The usurious 6.8% interest rate. That’s the problem. $10,000 is a great kick starter for those trying to pay off student loans, but 0% interest should be the goal.

I would like to see 0% retroactive to the day the loans were taken out for need based federal loans.
20 years out from medical school and I
owe about what I did when I graduated. All this time making payments and I have paid backthe amount borrowed. Just not the interest. There are loan servicing fees involved in taking out loans. Are those not enough to cover expenses? Why is the government making money off study I embarked on to serve others?
I am in a very high-need specialty. Yet most loan forgiveness programs have severe limitations and many have come out in the past 10 -15 years -- too late for me to benefit.

And I hope if we can send President Biden a bill (doubtful with Repukes and conservative Democrats) with the $50,000 that he won’t veto it.

It’s what was on Joe’s campaign website. Making the pay as you earn option 5% if discretionary income instead of its current 10%. Cutting people’s payments in half would change lives.

Do this first! And it doesn’t even take anything to pass. Dept of education could just change it.

There are tens of thousands still owing more than their original loan due to interest. There's no reason to collect increasing interest at this point, just zero out the interest. I am also for forgiving $10,000 -- but the remainder at zero interest would certainly help.
