The mayor of a West Texas town said Tuesday that he had already resigned after he was widely condemned for writing on Facebook that people suffering in the cold without power shouldnt look to their local governments for help.
Tim Boyd, who was mayor of Colorado City, made his original, typo-ridden post Tuesday morning, writing that no one owes you are your family anything; nor is it the local governments responsibility to support you during trying times like this! The City and County, along with power providers or any other service owes you NOTHING!
Boyd continued at length, saying that he was sick and tired of people looking for handouts and that the current situation is sadly a product of a socialist government. Only the strong will survive and the weak will parish, he wrote.
The post is no longer available, but numerous screenshots show it and a follow-up post he made several hours later in which he said he stood by the sentiments in his first missive but would have either kept his mouth shut or phrased his message better if he could do things over.

(46,697 posts)It's an excuse that comes up in areas where you have the two forms of government running side by side. One form of government is the one we all know, the other involves private meetings held by movers and shakers in the shadow government.
In the nineties we had a mayor, who came in with reckless intent, to take on a private business owner. He won the election in November, and a day later, he showed up at a City Commission meeting to launch the first volley against his opponent. The first thing he said was that he was showing up as a private citizen. Bullshit. There was no difference between his private vs. public agenda. Within two years the City would have to resolve the issue through a 2 million dollar settlement agreement.
So many warped ideas just continue to turn up among those who abuse public power. Time to stop this nonsense. A public figure is responsible for his private actions and discussions. Period.
