Texas Game Wardens rescue cold stunned sea turtles

Texas Game Wardens rescue cold stunned sea turtles

Like all reptiles, sea turtles are ectothermic (cold-blooded) and cannot regulate their body temperature. If water temperatures drop below approximately 50°F (10°C), sea turtles become lethargic and are unable to swim. They float up to the surface and become vulnerable to boat strikes or wash ashore and become stranded. If not rescued quickly, these defenseless animals often die of shock, predation, or trauma due to boat strike.

The freezing temperatures across the country aren’t just hard on the humans.

Texas game wardens have rescued 141 sea turtles stunned by the cold waters at the southern tip of the state.

The wardens pulled them from the frigid waters of the Brownsville Ship Channel and surrounding bays, according to their official Twitter account.

Cold stunned is when a sea turtle has become hypothermic due to severe cold weather.

I'm so glad these precious creatures were rescued!

But as a species, humans have refused to alter behavior to avoid the pandemic...

..it has again exposed wide open, the corruption at the top in Tx govt, the pay to play game they created for profit, with no concern forr those citizens who are left to pay the price.

We seen the underbelly of that corrupt side, and we will also see the good that exists among us.

CEO of ERCOT will either be fired or step doown & somewhere in all of this there will e the eventual demand for a changing of the guard in Tx.

Millions are just at the end of it all & fed up with what they know is true with the current govt.

Sad that it takes a catastrophy to reach that point. But the issue with the lack of energy infrastructure is now being told outside the protected halls of Abbott's govt, & people are pissed.
So be it.

So much of this country is good, & so much is for self

I believe we are in the beginning stage where the universe flips the power of good back to the rightful managers of the beautiful planet earth.

It's a slow churn but it is still a righting of this old ship.

Once warmed up they are fine and released after things warm up a bit.

Before humans they probably died wholesale. But there were so many more millions of them then it did not damage the population. Before Europeans arrived Florida’s beaches used to be absolutely crawling with turtles during breeding season.

The good news is that the numbers have been looking better for a while.
