Keeps their costs low and they know they won't have to pay for disasters. The downside is people suffer for wanton selfishness but if you're a requke morality doesn't matter. Shame is wasted on them b/c they have no shame only a craven desire for power.

8. It's only socialism when the "wrong" people receive a benefit

When the "right" people receive a benefit from a government program, that's their tax dollars at work. When the "wrong" people receive that same benefit, it's socialism and the unholy trinity of waste, fraud, and abuse. It's a very convenient and malleable argument, adaptable to practically any situation.
