General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsMy hubby was helping a neighbor scoop out their drive this morning when our neighborhood moron
came by. He yelled at my husband "hey scientist what do you think about global WARMING now"? My husband yelled back, "a mind is a terrible thing to waste". He didn't seem to get it, he looked confused and kept walking.
I also need to say, all of our neighbors were helping each other get their cars out so they could go to work, except the people who normally have Trump signs all over their yards and cars, they didn't help anyone.

What does the genius say to the documented fact Texass climate is changing? Most of the state has warmed between one-half and one degree (F) in the past century https://www.epa.gov/sites/production/files/2016-09/documents/climate-change-tx.pdf
Historic cold spells, overall trends of hotter, drier, wetter, more powerful hurricanes: It is all in evidence.

(51,550 posts)The main issue is warming near the arctic has weakened the jet stream that keeps cold air circulating there. So that cold air comes down to places like Texas who aren't prepared for it.

(16,698 posts)This information came out of the 2018 election. Texas was supposed to be turning blue. It was noted that if it weren't for the influx of people from out of state, it would have already. But GQP from other states keep moving there.

(7,859 posts).... Texas sees right now. Again, unfortunately, they won't let us teach truthful science classes anymore. So we can teach the next generation how global warming does affect the weather the southern states are seeing.
And sadly, many of the nation's public school textbooks arise from Texas sources. So the polluted teachings (lies) spread nationwide.

(3,758 posts)One artifact of net global warming is extreme weather - both hot and cold. The heating of the oceans revises weather patterns resulting in wide temperature swings and disturbed precipitation distribution. The routing of the jet stream changes and brings super cold weather down in to areas that are unaccustomed to it.
This summer when the Earth's tilt points the northern hemisphere toward the sun again, I have no doubt that we'll see Texas breaking heat records as the extremes and jet stream routing go the other way.
The smart people who run Texas' utilities recognize this and will write up lessons-learned for how to avoid heat-caused power shut-downs in summer. But, the dumb people who make up Texas' elected government will ignore this and cause more Texas death.
...all while vacationing in Canada to get out of the heat...at least partially at public expense. Ain't "liberty from regulations" great?

(1,910 posts)Just so many dummies from generation after generation. I just had a conversation with a young affluent mother who was playing on the next court to us with her little kid. After a minute I realized we had another Trump moron in our midst. She proceeded to educate me how the virus was fake and masks are bad for you....meanwhile I just let her go on and on, not telling her I have a MS degree in microbiology. Amazing how every Trumper knows more about every subject than anyone else, no matter how much the other person's experience.
The very dumbest among us have zero clue how dumb the actually are. Dunning-Kruger in full effect.

(9,372 posts)let alone a climatologist, but for over 25 years I have regarded heavy snows where I am - Colorado Springs - as a sign of global warming, not an argument against it.
I mean, snows like the one in '94 that dropped snow right up to the top of my windows - and blocked the door. Seriously, where do they think that snow is coming from? Certainly not from around here! We are basically high desert, only a little mitigated by landscaping. No, that's got to be Arctic snow, displaced by the warming of the planet.
That's not exactly scientific, and it certainly doesn't take into consideration polar vortices and Los Niños (and Las Niñas), and other known phenomena ... but it's close enough.
