Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) admitted his widely condemned Cancun vacation was booked after the power went out in Texas.
The Texas Republican was photographed on board a flight to the Mexican tourist destination late Wednesday, as millions remain without power in unusually cold weather across the state he was elected to represent, and flew home the following morning after facing widespread criticism for the trip -- which a source close to the senator initially claimed was "long-planned."
"Like millions of Texans our family lost heat and power too," Cruz said Thursday afternoon in a statement.
"With school cancelled for the week, our girls asked to take a trip with friends," the senator added. "Wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon."

Its an obvious lie.

(2,356 posts)Unless he went with no luggage, maybe then I'll buy the story, but why would they need him as an escort? This is ridiculous.

(16,508 posts)without his assistance and supervision. After all, she has an MBA from Harvard, another Master's degree from a European university, and is or was a senior professional at Goldman-Sachs. I think she could manage a short flight like that. Ted's "explanation" doesn't address his callous flaunting of wealth and privilege and his indifference to the misery and real danger many of his constituents are experiencing.

(56,212 posts)Though he specifically mentions his daughters, his wife was on the flight, so was she unable to escort their daughters? He states in a way that tries to make him look like a good father, but, IMO, it casts his wife as an incompetent parent unable to properly escort their daughters without the help of their magnificent father. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little!
