New York Times:
Text messages sent from Mrs. Cruz to friends and Houston neighbors on Wednesday revealed a hastily planned trip. Their house was FREEZING, as Ms. Cruz put it and she proposed a getaway until Sunday. Ms. Cruz invited others to join them at the Ritz-Carlton in Cancún, where they had stayed many times, noting the room price this week ($309 per night) and its good security.
The text messages were provided to The New York Times and confirmed by a second person on the thread, who declined to be identified because of the private nature of the texts.

(633 posts)So him saying this was pre-planned was a lie!
And him saying his children wanted to get away because it was too cold was a lie!
Of course we knew he was lying but I love that it was proven!
And it takes a special kind of sh*#t y person to throw your kids under the bus!
And even if it had been true that his kids made that request, that still doesn't make it acceptable!! What about all the other Texan kids who are also cold and would love to hop a flight to Cancun?!!
I can't wait till 5-10 years from now when his kids understand that their own parents threw them under the bus! I hope those kids turn on them!!

(8,712 posts)Compared to him saying the election was stolen, in states he has no business sticking that witches nose in. A lie that nearly destroyed our country. He is so damn good at the lying and gaslighting thing. Well done Yale and Harvard, you must be so proud.

(47,397 posts)Like someone who also threw his father and wife under the bus in his fealty to Donald Trump.
Pathological liar, utterly amoral, and "a narcissist at a level I dont think this countrys ever seen were words he once used to describe Trump, but he apparently was talking about himself.
Giving your children a vacation during a public crisis does not make you a good parent. Using your children as an excuse to evade your responsibilities as a public servant is going to earn you a "Father of the Year" medal.
Ted Cruz is a horrible person and everyone in the Senate hates him, which is why I was amazed that he got elected to the senate twice.

next to where I was sitting. I think he/she was laughing at me. I put some ham from a sandwich
by the opening and it ate it.

(32,079 posts)Weasels are smart, crafty and very cute. Ted Cruz is a slimy, ugly, moron.
One would think that him blaming this on his daughters would be enough to send him packing. Somehow, I think he'll probably survive this, even with the damning text messages, sadly.

(13,546 posts)Apparently it's just a way of life for the righties. And they get all this help from the propaganda outlets that perpetrate and amplify the lies.
And when they get caught like this, you would think their cult followers would see the light.

If Texas elects him again, I will lose what little respect I still have for them COMPLETELY.

How much bottled water, propane, gasoline, medicine and food the total of the money spent on plane tickets and room and board for all of the personel (family, security, etc.) involved could have been bought.
At the very least he could throw out a few rolls of paper towels for his constituents to cuddle up to help keep them warm until the utilities are turned back on.
