Queen Mother Elizabeth refused to evacuate her family from England during WWII,

in spite of the blitz and even Buckingham Palace itself being bombed multiple times.

https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/royal-family/buckingham-palace-bombing-ww2-george-vi-queen-mother-elizabeth-b421060.html

..."After surviving the attack, the Queen Mother later said in a statement: “I am glad we have been bombed. It makes me feel I can look the East End in the face.”
....

Despite being advised by the Foreign Office to immediately flee the country, the royal couple refused.

The Queen Mother declared at the time: “The children will not leave unless I do. I shall not leave unless their father does, and the king will not leave the country in any circumstances, whatever.“

"The documentary The Coronation, released in 2019, which features an interview with Queen Elizabeth about her coronation, reveals that the jewels were removed from their setting by a librarian and hidden in a Bath Oliver biscuit tin, before being placed in a chamber dug beneath Windsor Castle.

The truth was uncovered by royal commentator Alastair Bruce through old letters written to Queen Mary by King George VI, which outlined plans for the secret chamber. Not many knew of the jewel's hiding place, and in fact, a trap door still exists near the site at Windsor Castle.

One of the most important is the Black Prince's Ruby, which has been mounted on the Imperial State Crown since the days of Queen Victoria's rule. Despite the crown being remade in 1937, the ruby remains in place. St Edward's Sapphire, which is older than the ruby, is set in the cross of the crown. "....

9. The british royals are very well aware of how precarious their power is

During WW1 they even refused to let Tsar Nicholas's family into Britain for fears that it would make them more unpopular among the public. They're very mindful of how they can only retain their privileges with the consent of the people.
