This is my 14th day after my second Pfizer shot.
I planned on maintaining mask wearing, of course, as part of the social contract, but was hoping to get out more (I'm 74 with co-morbidities), but this morning I caught the last 20 seconds of a news story about vaccine immunity with variants. But I missed the majority of the story and cannot find much on the net.
What have you heard or what is a good source to look into this?

(4,999 posts)As you continue to wear the mask, even double masking in public, you will be at much lower risk.
Even if you are exposed to a variant, with a mask, your viral load intake will be lower, and your immune system which should be ramped up with the vaccine ought to be able to kick in quicker. How much the vaccine helps your immune system quickly recognize the new variant is the question on the table, I expect real data will be rolling in in a few weeks.
Google "vaccine effectiveness new variants" and see what you can find.

(83 posts)The mRNA vaccines target the corona structures that give the virus entry into the cell. Although viruses evolve, the only evolutionary pathways that will reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine will change the structure of the coronas. Changes in the coronas are likely make them less effective at gaining entry into the cell. The mRNA vaccines are game changers and not just for COVID.
I am NOT a scientist and just repeating something I heard. I welcome any negative feedback or corrections to my tentatively offered assertions be real scientists.
