I've already seen two or three ATs here, so I know it's a thing.
Colbert has been the most relentless Trump-basher of anybody in American media, entertainment or news, for the past five years! Before Trump's election, after Trump's election, and now in the post-Trump aftermath, Stephen has gone after Don like a dog with a bone, skewering the liar/racist/rapist/traitor/phony/bully/quisling/wimpy ex-prez in his monologue every night! To me, he is a Hero of the Electronic Resistence that finally booted the the orange-headed Putin-Sucker out of office!
Maher? He's good, but he spends almost as much time shitting on Democrats as he does Trump and his Cult. Oliver is good, too, but he's only on once a week, just like Maher, and his Main Story can be any of a thousand topics, the Four-Year Fat Fool being only one.
Kimmel? Good guy, but nowhere NEAR as relentless as Colbert! And do not get me started on Jimmy Fucking No-Talent "Tousle Donny's Hair" Fallon!
Stephen is the King, and I ain't talkin' about the horror author in Maine.

(12,327 posts)Maher annoys the shit out me by playing the game of extrapolating the behavior of one person to impugn the whole group. eg, "Wow. The people on the school board in San Francisco is soooooo are politically correct by proposing renaming high schools. This is why the democrats give me a sad. I'm so libertarian and above all."

(13,968 posts)For a long time he read real tweets verbatim in that raspy, strained voice with an undertone of whimpering, so much closer to the real thing than Alec Baldwin's. His Mnuchin and Eric impressions are hilarious. And he does a superb Biden, mining the funny parts of the president's personality (the aviator glasses; calling everyone "Jack"; etc.) more in adoration than insult.

(21,896 posts)After several episodes of his Adam Driver 'joke' or whatever the fuck it was, my lady and I could not watch him anymore. It was not funny but really pretty fucking creepy and after a few episodes with the same creepy shit going on and on with no hint that he would move on and cut the crap, we decided we were done with him. Mimicking a stalker for weeks on end with no explanation was simply too much. He nailed it so well that my lady (who had been stalked before) and I wrote him off as a shit bag that would never get our viewership back. Don't know if or how he ever resolved it and don't really care, as far as we are concerned he is Woody Allen category now. Fuck him.

(1,979 posts)He (John Oliver) is so f--ing brilliant and his bit with Adam Driver that culminated in his final 2020 show was nothing short of genius. You tube and watch. You won't be sorry.

(21,896 posts)Being an asshole as he was cannot be forgiven. My lady was deeply disturbed by it and no 'end joke' can make up for the pure shittiness he pulled to get there. Some things are just not funny to people who had to go though it for real.

(2,278 posts)I still dont think The Colbert Show was entertaining, his first book was poor enough that I wont buy more books he writes, and I wasnt looking forward to his takeover of Tonight when it was announced.
Who knows, maybe hes so good of an actor that he just made me really loathe the Raw dipwad character he created on his first show? Obviously Ive come around to what he does on Tonight, and more than once Ive purposely tuned in to see his (writers, actually, have to credit them too) take on a particularly foolish thing trump did. Rarely disappointed, and I have appreciated knowing Im not the only one who thought that way.

(21,946 posts)I'm always amazed at how fast the writers come up with hilarious monologues after an event that occurs mere minutes before a live show!
And Jon Batiste and his band is just super talented!

Yeah, the writing staff is pretty damn talented. I liked the fake Melania, too. She was great!

(2,937 posts)He really hated the former guy. He cries a lot, which I find very touching. He loves his wife very, very much. Don't even start with him and Lord of the Rings. This is a real human--he's rich, he's famous, but he's so accessible. I happily join this thread in appreciation of him.

(26,463 posts)I can't remember right now how I described their different vocal take that mirrored parts of drumph's (?) personality, and approach.
ETA:
All I had to do was look at some colbert monolouges.
So I thought Stephen voiced him sarcastic, and mean.
While to me Seth voiced him dumbish, and sometimes mean.
Love them both! ❤️❤️
I forgot Trevoh Noah. His drump stuff etc is also very funny!

I loved his book "Whose Boat is This Boat?" About Dotard visiting hurricane sites - hilarious.
I feel very strongly about this matter, and want as many people as possible to see it!
