How many past OMB directors can any of you name? Do you really want people to fall on their sword for this nomination? It's a low-key bureaucratic job. Let Manchin do his performative bipartisan squawking and nominate a low-key bureaucrat.
Save it for Haaland, Garland, and higher profile positions and judiciary.

(29,699 posts)he seems quite sexist and treated VPHarris very rudely.
Only 2 women have ever led that agency.

Neera Tanden is a political operative who is an easy target.
If there's a nomination to let them have it's this one.

(16,923 posts)when you need to "pick your battles." Honestly don't know enough about her to decide to stand and fight or just move on. If she's that good there surely will be a place in this Administration where she would be a valuable member.
BUT, I'm leaving it up to JOE and his team to 'do the right thing....'
Sympthsical
(9,064 posts)I admit I'm a bit stymied by the choice of Tanden. To call me not a fan is to severely understate my dislike of her. She wasn't just partisan, she was an absolute bomb-thrower - especially against the Left - over the years. She's not very well-liked, and she has the Twitter history to prove it.
However.
Bernie got over it. Manchin can, too. It's important to show some unity, get Biden's team in place, and have a nice galloping start to as much as possible. I like so many of his picks, I can let one I really dislike slide.
I guess, after begrudgingly getting boxed in by Biden, Harris, and others on the Covid bill, he was probably looking around for somewhere to stick a knife or two. Either to get a concession or maybe just pique. He thinks the next two years are going to be the party kissing his ass. Biden was not having that. He's probably sulking.
He needs to get on board. But, if this is going to cause a massive problem, fine, whatever. Just nominate someone else. I don't care either way. I just want things to get done. It is far too early for infighting.
